We strive for all components of our products to be low VOC and have done so from the start of the business more than 10 years ago. This is built into us personally. All of our standard adhesives and finishes are water-based and every new idea or finish will go through the scrutiny of the environmental team. Our black edge has been ebonised using a natural, non-toxic finish where the tannins found naturally in oak undergo a chemical reaction. You can watch the timber turn from a warm Oak to jet black within 30 seconds. Tannins found in oak and other plant species have been used in photography, inks and even for clarifying wine. Let’s drink to that.
We’re always on a mission to reduce our waste, energy and carbon footprint and ensure the whole team is involved and understands the importance of this reduction. Our electricity supply is from 100% renewable sources, this even includes our website server which is certified to Green-e. Our offcuts which are too small to be used are burned for heating the workshop and reducing the pressure on gas central heating and our packaging has been designed from the floor up, focussing heavily on quality, re-usability and recyclability.
Since we redesigned our packaging in 2017 we haven’t had a product damaged in transit.
